Key Stage 3

Meaning

To compress is to make something shorter or smaller in volume by applying a force.

About Compression

Gas can be compressed easily but solids and liquids cannot be compressed because the particles in a solid and liquid are already touching.

Key Stage 4

Meaning

To compress is to make something shorter of smaller in volume by applying a force.

About Compression

Gas can be compressed easily but solids and liquids cannot be compressed because the particles in a solid and liquid are already touching.
A spring can be compressed to become shorter due to pair of equilibrium forces.
