Key Stage 5
Meaning
Field lines are imaginary lines used to represent the direction and strength of a field, such as electric, magnetic, or gravitational fields.
About Field Lines
- Electric field lines point away from positive charges and towards negative charges.
 - Magnetic field lines form closed loops, emerging from the north pole and entering the south pole of a magnet.
 - Gravitational field lines point towards the centre of mass.
 - The density of the field lines indicates the strength of the field; closer lines represent a stronger field.
 - Field lines never cross each other.
 - Field lines provide a visual representation of the force experienced by a test particle placed in the field.
