Meaning

A drawing of a lymphocyte.
Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell.
About Lymphocytes
- Lymphocytes produce antibodies which attach themselves to pathogens to either damage, destroy or to make it easier for the phagocytes to engulf them.
- Lymphocytes also produce antitoxins to cancel out the effects of toxic chemicals made by the pathogens.
- When an organism is infected lymphocytes produce hundreds of different antibodies until one works.
- Once a lymphocyte has produce a working antibody it will remember and reproduce it any time the same pathogen infects the organism.
