There are many different types of soil which depends on what rocks they are made from.
Soil can have either sand, volcanic ash (clay), ancient seashells (chalk) or no rock in it.
All soils have dead animal and plant material in them.

  • Clay Soil is made mostly of volcanic ash and is either red-orange or blue-grey.
  • Peat is a soil without any rock material in it and is very dark brown or black.
