Key Stage 3
Meaning
Plastic deformation is when an object changes shape due to a pair of forces and remains this new shape after those forces are removed.
About Inelastic Deformation
- In plastic deformation the extension of an object is increases with a constant force.
- When an object is deformed plastically the work done increases the thermal energy store of the object causing it to increase in temperature.
Key Stage 4
Meaning
Inelastic deformation is when an object changes shape due to equilibrium forces and remains this new shape after those equilibrium forces are removed.
About Inelastic Deformation
- In inelastic deformation the extension of an object is increases with a constant force.
- When an object is deformed inelastically the work done increases the thermal energy store of the object causing it to increase in temperature.
