Meaning
A haploid cell contains only half the number of chromosomes needed to produce an new organism in sexual reproduction.
About Haploid Cells
- Haploid cells are produced by meiosis.
- When two haploid cells fuse together in fertilisation they produce a diploid cell.
- In a human a haploid cell contains 23 chromosomes.
