Key Stage 4

Meaning

The symbol for a fuse.

A fuse is an electrical component which prevents very large currents in a circuit.

About Fuses

Fuses are a thin piece of wire which is designed to melt when the current through the wire is too large.
Fuses are found inside plugs and are used to reduce the risk caused by a power surge.
The live wire is connected to a fuse in the plug so that if too much current goes through it into an appliance the fuse will break and stop the current.
